International School Award

We are delighted to announce that we have been reaccredited for the International School Award, from the British Council for all three schools! This is again at the full 'gold' level. The judges were really impressed with all of our work which included: linking with our Spanish school, (CEIP Blas de Otero, in Madrid), our Year 3 geography work with a school in India (Pragnya Bodhini High School in Mumbai), a special visit from teachers and students from Hangzhou Wensan Education Group in China and threading diversity into our curriculum and ethos.

School of Sanctuary Award

In March 2020, all three schools in the trust were delighted to receive the prestigious 'School of Sanctuary Award' - the first schools in Manchester to get this! A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for those seeking sanctuary. The School of Sanctuary Award is given by the City of Sanctuary movement to schools that have an exceptional commitment to diversity and have consistently put the sanctuary principles into practice.

We are proud to announce that we have been reaccredited for the School of Sanctuary award (2024). The judges said: "Your trust has remained so connected and engaged to the core values of welcoming, belonging, kindness and compassion and has gone from strength to strength since our last visit! You also remain incredibly responsive: from inviting Afghan refugees in hotels (with no school places) for sessions with you, to going off timetable to hold a 'Trust Peace Day' in response to conflicts around the world and even changing your trust charity (Save the Children) to reflect world events. Furthermore, all the support you have offered to our network has been invaluable - helping schools with their diversity work as mentors and also helping us judge applications! A great big thank you for all you do. Truly well deserved"

Refugee Week

The end of June is Refugee Week and as a School of Sanctuary we were keen to mark the occasion in school. A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for those seeking sanctuary.

This year, we were lucky to participate in some online storytelling sessions hosted by authors, including Michael Rosen, with their own experiences of displacement due to conflict.

In addition, after a special assembly, a competition was launched to design a welcoming poster for refugees. There were many amazing entries, especially from Year 4, so it was very hard to choose winners!

Winners:

Year 4: Minha, Isha, Idris

Year 6: Zoha, Efy.

Well done to everyone who entered and those who won - it is so lovely to see so many compassionate and creative children in our school.
